Welcome to my world of orchids. These pages are dedicated to orchid growers around the world.
I hope all who visit my site find these pages useful in their pursuit of
being an orchid grower.
Being an amateur grower myself, I have
needed information
regarding the many different genera. I have compiled the information
found into these pages
so others can benefit from my research. I have gathered some basic orchid culture
information to get you started. It is my hope these pages will provide
visitors with a source of information regarding the
care and raising of orchids. I have also provided some links to other orchid sites
which provide in
depth information, sources for plants, and pictures of orchids.
I was first exposed to the hobby and art of growing orchids by my
brother Rick. He has been an orchid grower for since 1994. Often we would discuss
orchid growing. The cultural requirements, light, water,
humidity, temperature, air movement, and even potting mixes. I was fascinated
both by the beauty and diversity. He invited
me to one of the local shows going back in 1996. There were so many different
species. The beauty of the flowers fascinated both Marie, my wife and me. That is when I
started my collection. I purchased two Phalaenopsis in
full bloom. Since then my collection has grown to over 150 plants. I am
currently putting the finishing touches on my first greenhouse. Not
all of my orchids require a greenhouse to raise I have selected genera from native climates close to
the area in which I live. I have joined two local orchid
societies. The first was the
Santa Clara Valley
Orchid Society which meets on the first Wednesday of each month here
in San Jose California. Then I joined the
Malihini Orchid Society with monthly meetings on the second Friday of
each month in Cupertino California.
I make no claim to be an expert in the growing of orchids. The
information I share has been collected from numerous sources and has guided me in growing of orchids. These pages will give only basic information. The more
you get to know about the natural habitat of your plants the better you will understand
their environmental needs. The best that a person can do is experiment. See what works for
you.
